However, while much progress has been made over the past 10 years, indicators still point to serious education and human-resource shortfalls at all levels throughout the region, a reality that could dampen Asia’s lofty economic aspirations. This section highlights major education challenges and trends in developing Asia and the Pacific. This handbook brings together and promotes research on the area of vocational education and training (VET). It analyzes current and future economic and labor market trends and relates these to likely implications for vocational education and training.

Education in Nigeria is overseen by the Ministry of Education. Local authorities take responsibility for implementing state-controlled policy regarding public education and state schools. The education system is divided into Kindergarten, Primary education, Secondary education and Tertiary education. Nigeria's central government has been dominated by instability since declaring independence. MHLW is principally responsible for public vocational training and the administration of trade skill and qualification tests. In addition, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) offers career education in the school and higher education sectors to improve students’ job readiness.

However, in my estimation, based on many visits to high schools and colleges around the country, there are some things that CTE needs to incorporate in terms of pedagogy and culture that are more aligned with the rest of the change in education. Non-CTE programs could learn a great deal from the world of Career Technical Education. In most Developing Countries, the TVET refers to non-academic technical education and practical training that develop the skills and knowledge of apprentices (learners of trades or crafts) working in different sectors of industry and trainees / students trained in different technical vocational institutes, centres and schools.
